Common Code Compliance Violations
Weeds & Noxious Plants
  • Grass cannot be more than nine inches high.
  • Yard clippings may not be discharged into the streets.
  • Other rules and conditions apply - Division 3 of Article III (Nuisances) of Chapter 8 - Offenses - Miscellaneous of the City of Cameron Code and in the Property Maintenance Code.

Parking & Vehicles
  • All-weather surface - Outdoor off-street parking of any vehicle on any portion of any lot in any zoning district shall be on an all-weather surface composed of concrete, asphalt, gravel, crushed stone, or similar aggregate (Zoning Article 24).
  • Junk vehicles - A junk vehicle is an abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicle. Any vehicle which does not possess an engine, has one or more missing tires, or is incapable of being operated upon public highways and streets for want of major components including transmission, window glass, body panel, seat, steering wheel, or instrument panel shall be deemed an abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicle. Any vehicle which is located on private or public property and which does not have lawfully affixed thereto an unexpired license plate and a current motor vehicle safety inspection certificate or an antique license shall be deemed an abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicle (Section 8-151 of the City of Cameron Code).
  • Commercial vehicles - Parking of commercial vehicles and equipment is prohibited in residential districts (See Section 7-14 of the City of Cameron Code).

Other
  • Signs, including temporary signs such as for garage sales, may not be placed in City rights of ways, utility poles, or street signs.
  • All properties, both residential and commercial, must display 9-1-1 address numbers visibly on their building to assist emergency response crews.

These examples are of common Code Compliance issues and are not meant to be an all-inclusive list of functions of the Department. Code Compliance also handles issues with fences, junk, and obstruction of waterways just to name a few.
