There is currently one K-9 Team for the Cameron Police Department. The current K-9 is a dual-purpose German Shepherd that is trained in obedience, police protection, tracking, and narcotics. The purchase of K-9 Ex ('Ex Man') in 2010 was partially made possible by the generous citizens of Cameron.

The City of Cameron's K-9 is trained to find the scents of marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, hashish, cocaine, and crack cocaine. The Unit is also trained to locate narcotics in various places such as vehicles and buildings.                                                     K9 Ex-119 3.jpg
Working in the Department
Cameron's K-9 Team works closely with the rest of the Department. Since Cameron is the largest city within a four-county region, the K-9 Team is often called to assist other agencies. The current K-9 Team has been called out to assist other departments with locating missing children and assisting in narcotic sniffs on traffic stops.

Cameron's K-9 Team is available to search in various environments. For example, the K-9 Team can assist with narcotics searches on traffic stops, locker searches, building searches, and search warrants. The Team is also available to give educational presentations.

K-9 Ex is trained in tracking, which enables the Department to track a subject who has run from the police. 'Ex Man' can also track missing people.

Our K-9 team trains for multiple hours each week. The dog lives with its handler in order for the dog and handler to become accustomed to each other, which will ultimately make training easier.
